How did I not know that in 2011 Porky’s closed and auctioned off the building which was shipped off and moved to the country to become a museum relic?

I lived in Minneapolis from 2003-2006 and haven’t been back in ages. This was by far one of my favorite things in Minneapolis/St.Paul, not just because of the great food, but because the place would be jam packed with muscle cars on Friday nights. Also, the winking pig neon was way cool.

It sucks to find out something you loved is gone, but it sucks more to find out about it 5 years after the fact. Oh, well... at least I don’t live in the rust belt any more.

Using Amazon Prime’s free two day shipping. You just need one hell of a cardboard box.

If it’s local, you jack it up onto a grid of beams, slide some wheels under it, and pull it like a big ass trailer.

If it’s long distance, you take it apart piece by piece and reassemble it. That’s how London Bridge ended up in Arizona of all places.

The worst part is that there isn’t another place like it. I like in MPLS and miss going to Porky’s just to oogle cars and have *meh* tenderloin sandwiches.

The one positive from this all is that a guy at the automotorplex bought a bunch of the building decorations, including winking pig, and we all get to see it during Cars and Coffee.

Come back and visit!

You find another building you think is a suitable mate and start writing fanfics about them

They cut the awning off and craned it onto a trailer, from what I gather.

I will one day. I grew up in the southwest MN farm country, so when I get the chance to visit MN I tend to hang out there with my family. I don’t really know anyone in the Twin Cities any more.

Come back on a Cars and Coffee weekend, it’s insane. Totally worth checking out.

I’d love to! Minnesota has such an awesome car scene. Probably because people are stuck hibernating in the shop with their nice cars off the road for 8 months of the year!
